Frequently Asked Questions
Why are the legs split into two blocks instead of solid?
Because solid timber moves. Teak expands and contracts with humidity, and a single thick section builds internal stress as the outside dries faster than the core — that’s what causes the surface checking and end-grain cracking you see on heavy one-piece outdoor legs after a few seasons. Splitting the mass into paired blocks with a gap gives the timber somewhere to move, so each section stays dimensionally stable. It reads as a design detail, and it’s also the reason these legs hold up.
Will the flat leg base mark decking, tile or travertine?
No. There are no metal glides to corrode or stain, and no narrow feet to concentrate load into a dent. The wide flat contact face spreads weight across a much larger area than a conventional leg, so ground pressure stays low on timber decking and soft ground. On tile and travertine there’s nothing harder than the surface itself in contact. For rough concrete or exposed aggregate we can apply a protective strip to the contact face — tell us the deck material when you enquire.
Can the leg height or section size be changed?
Yes. Leg height, block thickness and gap width are all adjustable, and this is one of the easier things to modify because the joinery doesn’t change. Raising the seat height suits properties with deep cushions or older guests; a heavier block section suits high-traffic decks. Dimensional changes carry no MOQ increase. Send us your target seat height and we’ll confirm what the frame allows.
